Waste water

Today, treated waste water can be reused for several restricted purposes. For instance, it can become irrigation water. However, it demands sanitary guarantees as it can have many harmful or negative. Its recycling depends among other on application, the soil characteristics, climate conditions and agronomic practices.

On the other hand, till recently, chlorination was a common disinfection method for destroying micro-organisms that occur in wastewater. However it has been established that high levels of organic chlorine compounds from chlorinated effluent discharging to streams are toxic to fish life, and harmful to plant life in irrigated waters. Scientific studies have also concluded that by-products, of chemically treated (chlorinated) water, such as tri-halomethanes, chlorinated hydroxy-furanone and other substances are carcinogens. Due to these reasons chlorine is now gradually eliminated from treating to be poured in natural environment. Ultra Violet disinfection not only easily kills coliforms but also viruses that may be numerous in wastewater, whereas chlorine has a mixed impact on them, depending highly on contact time and environment conditions fluctuations.
