Potable water

Drinking water can be produced from several natural sources, such as lakes, rivers, seawater or groundwater. The important thing to know is that drinking water must be nearly free of suspended solids, microorganisms or toxic chemicals, according to WHO norms.

More than 2 million of people die every year from diarrhea caused by drinking unsafe water, and/or living without adequate sanitation and hygiene, with a vast majority of children under the age of five. According to the WHO/UNICEF (Joint Monitoring Program on Water Supply and Sanitation), increasing access to safe drinking water, improving sanitation and hygiene, and improving water management could prevent 1.4 million child deaths from diarrhea, 500’000 deaths from malaria, and 860’000 child deaths from malnutrition. As about half the world’s populations lives in rural locations, they need to be served by “small community water supplies”, but these are often very precarious, and thus, vulnerable to contamination or breakdown. Moreover, water can be re-contaminated even in household by unsafe storage or unsafe piped water supplies.

As Chlorine only kills bacteria, Ultra Violet also kills moulds, spores, viruses within seconds, as it is a physical reaction with light energy unlike Chlorine, which is a chemical reaction requiring long contact time to poison the organisms. UV also does not produce any by-products, nor change the composition of the water, whereas chlorine reaction with the organisms will produce taste, odour and by-products like chloramines or trihalomethanes which are known carcinogens. Therefore Ultra Violet is recognised as a very effective means of disinfecting drinking water in an environmentally friendly manner.

 AquaNetto solutions

  • AquaNetto's range of Water Kiosks are designed for all individuals and groups interested in providing disinfected potable water-on-site, cleaned water storage,  centralised and decentralised water distribution. The water kiosks are ideal for treating water contaminated with bacteria and sediments as well as water sourced from streams, wells, mountain lakes, or relatively unpollued water delivered by lorry or the community network.

  • Water storage units, tanks, cisterns, and bags are prone to accumulation of microorganisms and bio-film. Without continuous disinfection of the water as well as the inner surface of the container recontamination is inevitable. The solutions of these problems are called Tank-OUT and Tank-IN-OUT units and systems. They consist of a central UV-C disinfection module that is integrated in a variety of positions in tanks and cisterns.
    • AquaNetto Tank-OUT units and systems are configured so as to treat out-flowing water.
    • AquaNetto’s Tank-IN-OUT units and systems are configured so as to treat both in and out-flowing water from the tank.
