Home >> Glossary >> Electromagnetic wave
An electromagnetic wave is formed by an electrical and a magnetic field component. Opposed to pressure waves, electromagnetic waves do not require a medium for propagation; their speed of propagation depends on the medium, and in a vacuum, electromagnetic radiation propagates at the speed of light. The “light” is probably the best-known electromagnetic waves.
